A perfectly white surface simply reflects all visible light that strikes it. White is everything and nothing, the whole and the void.
The artist writes:
When I think of white, I imagine a landscape under a perfect covering of snow. Everything is white, dazzling, turned into a cold blank desert. Under these conditions, white is not a colour at all, but a blinding nothing, an absence, an empty mind.

Wenn ich an das Weiss denke, denke ich an eine Landschaft unter einer perfekten Schneedecke. Alles ist weiss, blendend, verwandelt in eine kalte, leere Wüste. Unter diesen Voraussetzungen ist Weiss überhaupt keine Farbe, sondern ein blendendes Nichts, eine Abwesenheit - ein leerer Geist.
