Woolworths Building, 536-540 George Street, Sydney Australia
This Land
was developed in conversation with Nathan Moran, CEO of the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council (MLALC) located in Sydney.

The artwork was created for the north and west elevations of the Woolworths Building on the corner of George and Park Streets while the facades were repainted.

The conversation between the artist and Nathan Moran demonstrated that if anyone knows how to ‘give more than is taken’, it is the First Nations of Australia, living in sustainable and respectful relation to the land for millennia.

The site of the Woolworths Building marks the original water supply used by the Gadigal people. This water sustained all local animals and plants and provided a regular diet of fresh fish.

The artwork is a presentation of the artist’s reasoning that ‘if the City of Sydney is serious about becoming a leader in the reversal of climate change, it will seek to learn from its Gadigal people, Australia’s original custodians’.
