Firrell perceives beauty as an outgrowth of active justice; he sees beauty in the trade union movement, in the ideal of equality for all members of society; in speaking truth to power; in the act-of-becoming everyone must undertake in their lives.
This first tenet does not ask us simply to 'prize justice' but to 'prize the beauty of justice'. This is an important distinction as is the artist's use of the word 'justice' in the sense of 'fairness' rather than 'vengeance'.
